Aidan Hermans is designer, architect and artist from Curaçao, Dutch Caribbean, currently based in Amsterdam. His architectural education was completed in London and started at the University of Westminster, where he has since been a guest critic. He completed his MA in architecture at the Royal College of Art, graduating in 2017.
Using sculpture, moving image, photography and digital imagery, Aidan’s artistic practice is multi-disciplinary by nature. It requires and seeks out multiple forms of representation and often relies on alternate versions of the same work to tell a story. Taking on a serial quality, the results sometimes reject more standard forms of display in favour of, for example, recurring social media posts.
Artistic or design research methodologies underpin these investigations and place them in a larger context of human-nature relationships or contemporary sociopolitical questions. Broadly, framing all of his work are references to technology, nature, natural phenomena, socio-politics and their intersections.
Aidan also has 5+ years experience in leading international architectural practices including Grimshaw across all stages and multiple sectors, most notably in large scale infrastructure and transport.
