Pipe Up!

Winning group competition entry for a public furniture installation along the Albert Embankment in London. Considering the significant histories nearby including Joseph Bazalgette’s sewers and Royal Doulton’s factory, the design uses a fragmented column to tell stories through abstracted and figurative decorations based on the mundane pipe.

The project is narrativised in film, co-directed and edited by myself and two colleagues, and documents the prototype fabrication process at Darwen Terracotta and Grymsdyke Farm. The film includes interviews with leading architects and ceramic fabrication experts such as Charles Holland (Ordinary Architecture) and John Wilson (Darwen Terracotta).
