Memetic Scenography

This project is the fruit of a collaborative workshop to transform a series of reference images of frescoes and paintings from the Early Renaissance into an interpretive scenography. Elements of the reference images were treated as units in memes and translated, flattened, reorganised and reformatted as stage props for a domestic bedroom scene – the ‘Dream Bed’.

The images posit what has been “left out the door … and what we wish to bring back in to challenge our lives and conventions” [Black Square, 2017]. The workshop, titled “Everything Out The Door” was run by Black Square and culminated in an exhibition hosted at CAMPO in Rome, Italy.
